The photographs in this exhibition were created by young people aged 13–19 during The Amelia Young Creatives Portrait Photography Intensive in February 2026.

Led by professional photographer Clare Hughes, participants explored composition, editing and the craft of professional portraiture.

Across two days they worked in studio settings, roamed The Amelia, experimented with alternative portrait styles and responded to live briefs before selecting the images you see here.

The exhibition has been curated by two of the young photographers themselves. Their work is a vibrant expression of what can be achieved when creativity, skill-building and hands on learning come together.

Young Creatives Portrait Photography programme ran alongside the touring exhibition Life Through a Royal Lens, offering young people direct insight into a real-world creative industry.

Launched in October 2025, the Amelia Young Creatives programme supports young people to develop transferable and artistic skills through practical, haptic workshops. Photography was chosen in response to the 2025 Youth Consultation, which highlighted a strong interest in this artform.

The Portrait Photography Intensive marks the second project in the programme's growing creative offer.
